Check-Ups

Our website is designed to help parents, teachers, tutors, and volunteers locate resources that will support students. For some students, an informal Check-Up from MODReading may help to sort out which resources are a good place to start. We do not provide any information about diagnosis or school placement suggestions.

MODReading Check-Up

A MODReading Check-Up allows parents to understand their child’s relative strenghts and weaknesses in phonemic awareness, sounding out, remembering words, fluency, expression, and comprehension. It provides a suggested list of resources if any areas of difficulty are found.

This option is a great way for parents who are curious or have mild concerns about their child’s reading ability. This allows parents to gain an access to high-quality, individualized recommendations without the time-consuming and costly experience of a private assessment.

For parents who have serious concerns about their child’s reading ability, this check-up will help start the process of figuring out how to support their child immediately, while waiting to gain access to an assessment through the schools or private practice.

This Check-Up is also appropriate for older students and adults.

If you would like to receive a reading check-up from a certified MODReading specialist, contact us.

Please note: the check-up is not a normed assessment and provides no diagnostic information. MODReading does not guarantee any progress with the recommended resources.

Executive Functioning Screener

The Executive Functioning Screener provides deeper insight into how executive functioning is impacting a students ability to learn. This option is recommended for students who are struggling in school or who have received a diagnosis.

The EF Screener is provided only in the San Francisco Bay Area by Jennifer Larson-Simmons. She has an authoritative understanding of the role of parts-to-whole and whole-to-parts thinking, conceptual versus procedural tihnking, visual-spatial relationships. Jennifer provides a list of recommended games and activities designed to strengthen these skills.

If you would like to receive an EF Screening from Jennifer Larson-Simmons, contact us.

Formal Assessment Interpretation

MODReading provides recommendations based on previously administered neuropsychological assessments, psycho-educational assessments, and other forms of assessments that yield a diagnosis. A free MODReading Check-Up is included as part of the interpretation but is not required.

This option is also appropriate for students who have received extensive testing and remediation services, but are still struggling with reading. This session may include the MODReading Check-Up or simply a student interview in addition to a parent meeting.

Currently, this service is provided only in the San Francisco Bay Area by Beth Powell who has extensive knowledge of assessments and services available in the Bay Area.

If you would like to receive a Formal Assessment Interpetaion, contact us.

Please note: the interpretation service provides no diagnostic information. MODReading does not guarantee any progress with the recommended resources. School placement recommendations are not included as part of this service.
